How to change Oil in a Golf

Oil Change

1. Raise front of vehicle to a suitable height to access sump
drain plug and place suitable container under, to drain used oil.
2. Undo oil drain plug in sump and let run into container.
Let old oil fully drain. Removing the oil filler cap on the
tappet cover can help oil drain more quickly.
3. Clean sump drain plug and remove old sealing washer
and replace with new.
4. Replace sump plug and torque to specification.
5. Remove oil filler cap and fill with appropriate oil .
Approximately 2.8 Litres.
6. Remove dip stick and check oil level. Oil should
be at the top mark, top up if required.

N.B. Please dispose of old oil thoughtfully.

Removing and Installing Oil Filter

1. Place suitable container under the vehicle to catch any excess oil spilled when
removing the filter.
2. Use suitable oil filter removal tool to remove filter.
Screw anti clockwise.
3. Clean area on which new oil filter is to be fitted.
4. Prime new oil filter with oil. This may take several
minutes as the material in oil filters is highly absorbent.
5. Smear rubber seal on filter with a small amount of oil
so as when fitted the seal does not grab on the mating
surface and distort, therefore not sealing correctly.
6. Screw on oil filter, clockwise by hand firmly.
7. Check engine oil level with dipstick and top up
if required.
8. Start engine and warm up to operating temperature,
at the same time checking for leaks.
9. Stop engine and retighten oil filter again by hand firmly.

Tech Hint
DO NOT TIGHTEN OIL FILTER WITH THE REMOVAL TOOL,
ONLY BY HAND.
