Remove & Replace Distributor Drive
DISTRIBUTOR DRIVE PINION
Removal
1 Set No.1 cylinder to firing point.
2. Release distributor retainer clamping bolt.
3. Remove distributor.
4. Remove fuel pump together with intermediate flange, gaskets and push rod.
5. Remove distance spring on distributor drive pinion.
6. Withdraw the drive pinion by pulling with a distributor drive removal tool, turning
to the left at the same time.
7. Take out washer under drive pinion. (DO NOT drop into timing chamber)
With the engine installed , the washer can be removed with a magnet.
Installation
1. Check the eccentric and spiral gear of the drive pinion for wear.
If the spiral is badly worn, the teeth of the distributor drive gear
on the crankshaft must also be checked.
2. Check washer under drive pinion for wear . Renew if necessary.
3. Set No.1 cylinder to firing point. Install distributor drive pinion.
The offset slot in the top of the distributor drive pinion must be
at an angle of approximately 60 degrees to the crankcase joint.
4. Insert distance spring.
5. Install distributor and secure retaining clamp nut.
6. Adjust timing.
7. Install fuel pump.
INSTALL OO9 DISTRIBUTOR
1. Remove old distributor.
2. Block off vacumn line at carburettor with a suitable plug.
3. Check that distributor drive gear spring is in position.
4. Install distributor clamp bracket on new unit.
5. Smear distributor shaft 'O'ring with a small amount of oil to aid installation.
6. Install in crankcase noting that it has meshed correctly with the drive gear, then
tighten clamp retaining nut.
7. Set number one cylinder to firing point.
8. Turn distributor until the rotor button is pointing to the number one cylinder mark
on the distributor housing.
9. Set dwell and timing. Timing for a 009 distributor is 10 degrees BTDC.
