How to Remove and Replace a Clutch cable

(air cooled)

Removal

1. Raise rear of car and remove left rear wheel
2. Disconnect clutch cable from operating lever
3. Remove pedal cluster
4. Withdraw clutch cable through hole where pedal cluster was removed

Installationl

1. Insert clutch
cable in hole where pedal cluster was removed from, and insert in
tube and push through to rear.
2. Note the correct position of the rubber sleeve at the end of the guide tube.
3. Grease clutch cable eye and clutch pedal shaft with universal grease.
4. When the cable eye is attached to the hook it is important to keep the pedal vertical
so as it does not become disconnected.
5. Ensure that when the pedal cluster is installed that the pedal stops are adjusted
correctly. The piston push rod for the brake master cylinder must have a clearance
of 1mm in the piston.
6. Grease clutch cable adusting nut with universal grease.
7. Adjust pedal free play and tighten lock nut.
8. The clutch cable guide should bow 25 - 45mm (see B). This pre load is obtained by inserting
washers between the bracket on the transmission and the end piece of the guide
tube(see A),.

Note If the bend in the cable is excessive it will make the cable stiff in operation and can cause creaking noises or cable breakage. This can be rectified by shortening the rear guide tube after removing the cable and cable guide
